An Autobiography - Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru

Note: This is not a sponsored review.

I was not a big Fan of Autobiographies. Found them very Dull & Boring. I felt that people who thought great of themselves wrote Autobiographies. They must be feeling they are Superior to others when they write One. But had to change my Mind when I read this 643-pages Autobiography of our First Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

He wrote this Book in Prison, in the Almora District Jail, as a Political Prisoner. I am sure he was not feeling Superior at the Time. It was written in between 1934 and 1935, when Writing was the only Past Time for him inside the Four Walls of the Jail Barrack.

It is his Personal Story where he has started with his Family, his Father Motilal Nehru’s Birth, his Birth, the growing up in Allahabad, his Family’s association with Politics & Nation’s Struggle for Freedom and his long-lasting Struggle in Crafting India’s Fight for Independence from Britishers.

He has also described beautifully how India awakened to a larger cause and how it wanted to get rid of old Chains of Patience and putting up with the Torture under the Hands of its Rulers.

Another important aspect of this Book is that it is just not devoted solely to Chacha Nehru. He has given due respect to all those who featured in his Journey with him, from Mahatma Gandhi to a small Prisoner in a Jail he met. Hence, it is not just an Autobiography but also a Story of India’s Independence till 1935. We get a glimpse of how much our Ancestors suffered so that we can live in a Free India.

Pandit Nehru was not just a great Leader but a great Writer too. He has written some other Books too and I am surely not going to miss them.
